Space Knowledge – Jupiter & ISS – Zenith

This is a documentary on the history of the International Space Station (ISS). It was a laboratory that orbits the earth every 90 minutes and is a joint project between the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada.

The ISS was originally called Space Station Freedom but plans for it kept changing, and it was almost abandoned. The program was put on hold when the Space Shuttle Challenger crashed in 1986, and the Soviet Union launched Mir, their own space station.

Mir was where the Russians gained valuable experience in microgravity research and on-orbit construction. NASA resumed shuttle flights in 1988 and eventually partnered with Russia to form the Shuttle-Mir program.

They learned from each other and eventually collaborated on the International Space Station. The first module of the ISS was launched in 1998, and construction continued for many years.

The ISS was initially built for research and experimentation in microgravity and has since become a symbol of international cooperation.
