The Meat Lobby – doesn’t want you to know the truth about their products
In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) listed processed meats as carcinogenic. This same additive was nearly banned from America in the 1970s – until lobbying from the meat industry discredited the science. Processed meats are defined as any meat that has been modified to increase shelf life or flavor. This includes bacon, ham, sausage, and lunch meats. The WHO’s report found that eating processed meats increases the risk of cancer by 18%.
Meat consumption has been a topic of debate for many years. Some people believe that meat is necessary for a healthy diet, while others believe that meat consumption is harmful to the environment and human health. There are many reasons to support either side of this debate, but one strategy that has emerged in recent years is to focus on the benefits of meat consumption. This strategy is based on the idea that meat is a healthy source of protein and that it can be part of a healthy diet.
In the United States, there is a large contingent of people who feel that those whose work finds health risks associated with meat are “shut down.” This is due to the powerful meat industry lobby, which has a vested interest in keeping Americans consuming meat at any cost. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a report stating that processed meats like bacon and sausage are carcinogenic, and red meats like beef and pork are “probably carcinogenic.
Director Sandrine Rigaud, originally from Brittany, France, spent the year of 2016 traveling to various parts of the world in order to investigate the meat industry’s tactics. She started in California, then moved on to Wisconsin, and finished up in Denmark. What she found was that the industry uses very similar methods everywhere in order to produce and sell meat as cheaply as possible. They also attempt to keep consumers in the dark about how their food is produced.
