How Mega Transports Delivers Gigantic Mining Trucks
The documentary “Extremely Heavy Mining Truck | Mega Transports |” showcases the process of transporting an ultra-class dump truck, one of the biggest and heaviest machines on earth, to an oil sands surface mine in Alberta, Canada.
The dump truck in question is a Caterpillar 797, which weighs about 300 tons and costs around $6-8 million.
The documentary begins by highlighting the enormity of the machine and the challenging task of transporting it. The team responsible for the transportation consists of seven men who have been preparing for the job for several weeks.
The process of moving the dump truck requires the use of specialized equipment, including heavy-duty cranes and multi-wheeled transporters.
The team faces additional challenges due to the weather, as the recent rain has made the ground muddy and slippery. However, the team is determined to complete the job on time to avoid rush hour traffic.
The dump truck has just completed maintenance at a workshop and is ready to be transported to its new location.
The workshop, run by the multinational company Mahmood, specializes in repairs and rebuilds of mining equipment, including massive dump trucks.
The team at the workshop disassembles and rebuilds the dump trucks, including cutting holes in the frame, magnifying and NDT testing it, reassembling it with bigger components, and testing the engine, radiator, and other parts.
The documentary also highlights the importance of dump trucks in the Canadian mining industry. With enormous deposits of oil sands, heavy oil, and bitumen, the Canadian province of Alberta produces about half a million barrels of crude oil a day, two-thirds of which are exported to the United States.
To access these resources, billions of tons of sandstone and gravel must be moved every day, and dump trucks play a crucial role in this process.
Overall, the documentary provides a fascinating look into the world of mega transports and the immense machines that are necessary for the mining industry. It highlights the dedication and expertise of the workers who are responsible for transporting and maintaining these massive machines.
