Desperate Flight Disaster Survivors Battle Starvation and Freezing to Death
On October 13, 1972, a plane crashed in the Andes mountains. The plane was flying from Uruguay to Chile, and it crashed 4000 meters up in the Andes.
Of the 45 people on board, only 35 survived. The survivors were stranded on the mountainside with no food or water. They faced the possibility of starvation and freezing to death.
The rescuers initially tried to find the survivors, but after 10 days they gave up the search. The abandoned survivors had to face the cold and hunger alone. In December, two of the survivors died from starvation.
The other survivors managed to survive by eating the snow and drinking their own urine. In November 1972, two more of the survivors died from hypothermia.
On December 12. 60 days after the crash, Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa crossed a frozen river and found help. In the end, only 16 survived this incredible story.
